CELLO

THE CELLO IS LIKE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN THAT DOES NOT AGE. SHE JUST BECOMES MORE YOUNG, MORE SOUPLE, MORE GRACEFUL.

– Pablo Casals.

Composers:

Wagner, Philip Glass, Joseph Haydn, Dmitri Kabalevsky.

Representative players:

Luigi Boccherini, Yo-Yo Ma, Steven Isserlis, Mischa Maisky, David Popper.

What it is:

a chord instrument, initially created as bass for orchestras. The low register resonates better with musicians than the violin’s high counterpart.

Why choose the cello:

It produces a deep, layered and rich sound.

Essential in any ensemble, balancing the violins’ high tone.

There are so many solos for cellos.

You can play it in three keys: bass, tenor, treble.

Stimulates multisensorial development.
